History:
According to popular legends, this temple was originally built by King Ambarisha, a devotee of Lord Vishnu. He used to observe Ekadashi (fasting) religiously. The next morning (Dwadashi) the King would feed a Brahmin and then break his fast by taking food. Once sage Durvasa visited him on Ekadashi. The king requested the sage to be his guest so that he can feed him the next day (Dwadashi) before breaking his fast. Durvasa was a short tempered rishi. He decided to play a trick on Ambarisha. The next morning, he went to bathe in the river and did not return until Dwadasi thithi was over. The King had to break his fast and before that he had to feed Dursava. He waited for a long time but when the sage did not turn up, the King broke his fast by taking food. Durvasa returned shortly afterwards. When he realized that the king had taken food, he became angry and sent an ogre to kill him. Ambarisha prayed to Lord Vishnu for help. Angered by the plight of his devotee, Vishnu sent his Sudarshan Chakra (celestial wheel) to kill the ogre. After killing the ogre, the Chakra turned towards Durvasa. Sensing that his life was in danger, Durvasa fell at the feet of Vishnu and sought pardon. Vishnu, however, asked him to apologize to Ambarisha. The lord then asked his devotee if he had any wishes. To this, Ambarisha replied that the Lord should appear before him from all directions. According to another legend, King Ambarisha attained salvation here.

History:
The Vishnu is called "Navamukunda Perumal/Tevar" as it is believed that the idol was the ninth one to be installed in the temple by a group of nine Hindu yogis known as "Navayogis". The first eight idols sank into the Earth as soon as they were placed there and the ninth sank to its knees before it was forcibly stopped. As the location of the sunken idols were not known, devotees used to make pradikshina on their knees. Even Alvancheri Tamparakkal and Tirunavaya Vaddhyans were not exempted from this practice.[9] Tirunavaya is also known as called "Navayogisthala".
According to the legends, goddess Lakshmi and Gajendra, the king of the elephants, worshiped god Vishnu here with lotus flowers from a lake nearby; with the two devotees using flowers from the same source, its supply dwindled, and Gajendra appealed to Vishnu, who took Lakshmi by his side on the same throne and accepted worship offered by Gajendra.

The temple has an interesting legend behind. While travelling around the world, Lord Brahma came across a beautiful place now known to be Brahmagiri hills. Getting attracted to the beauty of the hills, he descended there and noticed an idol resting on an Amla (Gooseberry) tree. He recognized the idol as Lord Vishnu himself and with the help of the other Devas, he installed the idol there. On Brahma's request, Lord Vishnu promised that the water around the temple will wash away all sins and thus the stream Papanashini originated, destroying all the sins. The temple got its name from Nelli means Amla (Gooseberry) and came to be known as Thirunelli.

History:
The oldest record of the history of Thiruvambadi Temple dates back to the 16th century. The temple was formerly situated at Edakkalathur, 20 Km Northwest to the Trichur Town. The idol was transported to the present place by villagers, and a childless couple at the Kandanath Mana were given the custody. They considered it as their own child, and Lord Krishna was so impressed by their devotion that he acquired a different posture with a flute in one hand and the other hand outstretched to accept the butter regularly offered by the couple. The temple ownership was later on passed to the public by the couple.

The Thuiruvullakkavu Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is a Hindu temple located in Cherpu of Thrissur district of Kerala. The deity is Lord Ayyappan in standing posture with arch and a bow. An enchanting shrine in the midst of a dense forest, a gusher of beneficent spirit-that was the temple of Thiruvullakkavu, centuries back. Lord Sastha, the presiding deity, as the divine protector of the whole village settlement, showered benediction on a cultured rave. He rode the boundaries of the settlement on His white charger; the pure, microcosmic soul. Full of devotion, the people reveled in the ineffable tenderness of Sastha. A peaceful refuge for the troubled soul that was Thiruvullakkavu.

From 1957, the festival of Gosala Krishna Temple at Thiruvanvandoor commences from Thrichittatt Maha Vishnu temple when 25 caparisoned elephants are paraded to the Thiruvanvandoor.
History:
Earliest references to this temple appear in the poems and hymns composed by the greatest of Alvar saints - Nammalvar, in circa 800 AD. Stone inscriptions in the temple date it back to the Second Chera Empire (800 - 1102 AD).[5] In modern times, the temple is administered by Travancore Devaswom Board of the Government of Kerala.[6] There are no historical records to indicate when the temple was built. As per local legend, the temple was believed to have been built by Devas.
It is one of the five ancient shrines in the Chengannur area of Kerala, connected with the legend of Mahabharata. Legend has it that the Pandava princes, after crowning Parikshit as king of Hastinapura left on a pilgrimage. On arriving on the banks of river Pamba, each one is believed to have installed a tutelary image of Krishna; Thrichittatt Maha Vishnu Temple by Yudhishthira, Puliyur Mahavishnu Temple by Bheema, Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple by Arjuna, Thiruvanvandoor Mahavishnu Temple by Nakula and Thrikodithanam Mahavishnu Temple by Sahadeva.
During Mahabharata war, Yudhishthira, the head of the Pandavas, who never before uttered a lie, lied in one instant to defeat his Guru, Dronacharya. To overcome the sin of the lie, he underwent penance worshiping the lord here. Imayavar (Devas) came to this place prior to Yudhishthira and hence the deity here is referred as Imayavarappar.[3] There is another version that the Pandavas worshipped the idols during the reign and started installing them in different places during the end of the reign.
Thiruchittattu temple, is considered to be one among the 108 most sacred place of worship, where Lord Vishnu himself resides.
