Sree Chirakkakavu Bhagavathi Temple is one of the oldest Devi Temples in North Kerala. The presiding deity of this temple is the goddess Kaali, who is worshipped in three forms, or Thrigunaathmika. The temple was built by the king of Kolathiri- Chirakkkal Raja after the Swayambhoo of the goddess in Koduvally River, and so became renowned as Sree Chirakkakavu.According to established belief, the goddess Kaali appeared in the azhimugham of Vamal with her parivaras(retinue), in the palace where the river meets the sea. She assumed the form of a divine fish. The place is now known as Vamal, the Sree Moolasthana of Sree Chirakkakavu Bhagavathi.Chiirakkal Raja visited the palace and bowed to the goddess. The king then built the temple on top of Illikkunnu, believed to be the thapovan of an earlier era. The temple is surrounded by kavu or groves of trees.

The King Mandhatha of surya dynasty ruled the country for long period. He then gave away the kingdom to his successors and chose to meditate on lord Siva and attain the lord's feets at the end. Siva was pleased with his penance appeared before the king and offered him any boon. The king prayed to the lord for an idol to worship till his death. Siva gave him the most holly Siva linga at Kailas, which was too dear to him and which used to be worshiped by Parvathy and the disappeared.
Carrying the Siva linga on head mandhatha started his downward journey from Kailas and reached the hill now known as Thirumandhamkunnu.A spring with crystal clear water flowed along the northern slop of the hill. Many beautiful birds chirped in the jungle. Wild animals like lion, tiger, and elephant roamed about in the wilderness in full harmony forgetting their traditional enimity. Different kinds of trees and plants grew in the region and gave out sweet smell in to the atmosphere. The surrounding attracted the king. Feelings of idol on his head heavy he placed it on the ground at immediately the linga got stuck in to the earth.

History:
According to popular legends, this temple was originally built by King Ambarisha, a devotee of Lord Vishnu. He used to observe Ekadashi (fasting) religiously. The next morning (Dwadashi) the King would feed a Brahmin and then break his fast by taking food. Once sage Durvasa visited him on Ekadashi. The king requested the sage to be his guest so that he can feed him the next day (Dwadashi) before breaking his fast. Durvasa was a short tempered rishi. He decided to play a trick on Ambarisha. The next morning, he went to bathe in the river and did not return until Dwadasi thithi was over. The King had to break his fast and before that he had to feed Dursava. He waited for a long time but when the sage did not turn up, the King broke his fast by taking food. Durvasa returned shortly afterwards. When he realized that the king had taken food, he became angry and sent an ogre to kill him. Ambarisha prayed to Lord Vishnu for help. Angered by the plight of his devotee, Vishnu sent his Sudarshan Chakra (celestial wheel) to kill the ogre. After killing the ogre, the Chakra turned towards Durvasa. Sensing that his life was in danger, Durvasa fell at the feet of Vishnu and sought pardon. Vishnu, however, asked him to apologize to Ambarisha. The lord then asked his devotee if he had any wishes. To this, Ambarisha replied that the Lord should appear before him from all directions. According to another legend, King Ambarisha attained salvation here.

History:
The Vishnu is called "Navamukunda Perumal/Tevar" as it is believed that the idol was the ninth one to be installed in the temple by a group of nine Hindu yogis known as "Navayogis". The first eight idols sank into the Earth as soon as they were placed there and the ninth sank to its knees before it was forcibly stopped. As the location of the sunken idols were not known, devotees used to make pradikshina on their knees. Even Alvancheri Tamparakkal and Tirunavaya Vaddhyans were not exempted from this practice.[9] Tirunavaya is also known as called "Navayogisthala".
According to the legends, goddess Lakshmi and Gajendra, the king of the elephants, worshiped god Vishnu here with lotus flowers from a lake nearby; with the two devotees using flowers from the same source, its supply dwindled, and Gajendra appealed to Vishnu, who took Lakshmi by his side on the same throne and accepted worship offered by Gajendra.

History:
The temple has an interesting legend behind. While travelling around the world, Lord Brahma came across a beautiful place now known to be Brahmagiri hills. Getting attracted to the beauty of the hills, he descended there and noticed an idol resting on an Amla (Gooseberry) tree. He recognized the idol as Lord Vishnu himself and with the help of the other Devas, he installed the idol there. On Brahma's request, Lord Vishnu promised that the water around the temple will wash away all sins and thus the stream Papanashini originated, destroying all the sins. The temple got its name from Nelli means Amla (Gooseberry) and came to be known as Thirunelli.
While reaching the premises of this temple, you will experience the tranquility. You will get refreshed with calm and peaceful surroundings covered with lush green forest. The Thirunelli temple is constructed as per ancient temple architecture.
The rituals in this temple are performed on the banks of stream Papanashini, which originates from the Brahmagiri hills. The stream is considered to have medicinal powers. You can also see a holy rock in this temple, where people used to pray for their forefathers. On the western side of the Thirunelli temple, you can sight cave temple Gunnika. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Thus Thirunelli is blessed with the trinities – Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.
Near to the Papanashini stream, you can sight Panchatheertham, the sacred pond. It is believed that five streams met here in ancient period. You can see dense bushes surrounding the pond and also a foot imprint of Lord Vishnu in a stone slab at the centre of this pond. On summer season, the pond becomes dry.

History:
The oldest record of the history of Thiruvambadi Temple dates back to the 16th century. The temple was formerly situated at Edakkalathur, 20 Km Northwest to the Trichur Town. The idol was transported to the present place by villagers, and a childless couple at the Kandanath Mana were given the custody. They considered it as their own child, and Lord Krishna was so impressed by their devotion that he acquired a different posture with a flute in one hand and the other hand outstretched to accept the butter regularly offered by the couple. The temple ownership was later on passed to the public by the couple.

The Thuiruvullakkavu Sree Dharma Sastha Temple is a Hindu temple located in Cherpu of Thrissur district of Kerala. The deity is Lord Ayyappan in standing posture with arch and a bow. An enchanting shrine in the midst of a dense forest, a gusher of beneficent spirit-that was the temple of Thiruvullakkavu, centuries back. Lord Sastha, the presiding deity, as the divine protector of the whole village settlement, showered benediction on a cultured rave. He rode the boundaries of the settlement on His white charger; the pure, microcosmic soul. Full of devotion, the people reveled in the ineffable tenderness of Sastha. A peaceful refuge for the troubled soul that was Thiruvullakkavu.
